Front-running GOP Congressional candidate Jim Oberweis today released a copy of the
pledge he signed to support term limits in the U.S. Congress, if elected.
“It’s too easy for some candidates to tell voters what they want to hear when they’re
promising not to become professional politicians,” declared Oberweis. “Yet all too often,
Congressmen later decide they’re just too indispensable not to stay in office forever. It’s
as if they asked themselves, ‘How did America ever survive before I got here?’”
“As for me, I believe that public service is not only an honor, but a position that should
be held with humility, recognizing that America’s strength is in the abundant supply of
talented, energetic people willing to serve others though patriotic public service,” said
Oberweis. “It is our limitless supply of talented, patriotic citizens available to refresh the
promise of America that keeps ours forever a nation of, by, and for the people.”
“I am so strongly committed to my belief in term limits that I signed the ‘U.S. Term Limits
Amendment Pledge’ years ago, and the Oberweis Foundation has made donations
supporting the organization’s efforts to move the Amendment forward nationally,” said
Oberweis. “I put my money where my mouth is.”
“Polling evidence shows that the American people overwhelmingly support term limits
for Members of Congress,” noted candidate Oberweis. “Yet it’s the one issue that both
Democrats and Republicans alike in Washington, truly hate. The swamp won’t drain
itself. Term limits assures that the American people will get the representative
government they deserve.”
“The support for a Constitutional amendment is growing. Currently 14 states out of the
required 34 have already passed resolutions to create an Article V Convention to make
this the law of the land,” Oberweis pointed out. “I, for one, couldn’t be more proud to have lent both my signature and my resources to help make term limits become a reality.”
