“OBERWEIS NOMINATED FOR “SOUTHWEST FLORIDA CITIZEN OF THE YEAR”
Hon. Jim Oberweis was named a nominee for “Southwest Florida Citizen of the Year” by “SWFL Inc’s INCredible Awards” program.
The nomination recognizes an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the betterment of Southwest Florida.
Oberweis has been cited for his contributions of time and financial support to numerous nonprofit organizations serving Southwest Floridians, such as The Cape Coral Caring Center, Lee Health Foundation, St. Matthews House, Pregnancy Resource Center, and “4 Kids Southwest Florida”, to name just a few. (A longer list is attached below.)
Involved in Southwest Florida philanthropy long before deciding to run for Congress, Oberweis felt honored to be nominated despite the fact he is seeking office. “Very often, deciding to serve the community by running for public office means you must forego being recognized for civic efforts that are really very dear to your heart. Many organizations don’t want to risk appearing to be ‘involved in politics.’ So I especially want to thank ‘SWFC Inc’ for their courage in making me a nominee, recognizing how important local charitable organizations are to me because of their ability to improve the lives of our neighbors.”
“Since deciding to run for Congress, I also intend to use my official capacity to improve the lives of Southwest Floridians by such actions as converting the Cape Coral Veterans Clinic to a full-serve Veterans Hospital, and ensuring that we have the resources we need for infrastructure that keeps pace with the growth Southwest Florida is experiencing,” said Oberweis. “In addition to that, I have also declared my intention to donate my Congressional salary to charitable causes in our district to help our neighbors in need here. I think this is what anyone should do who really cares about public service, and can afford it.”
“It has been my fervent hope that people will recognize that my only ambition in seeking office is to make sure that we leave our children and grandchildren an America as secure, as fiscally sound, and as great as the America we inherited,” said Oberweis. “This nomination for ‘Southwest Florida Citizen of the Year’ is a special honor to me, because it’s a recognition of what truly motivates me.”
“My special thanks to the Committee or nominating me, and my best wishes to the leaders of
‘SWFL Inc’ for success with their Awards Dinner on May 19th at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point,” concluded Oberweis.
