“No Amnesty for Illegals!”

Congressional candidate Jim Oberweis today declared his opposition to
any House legislation that would provide de facto amnesty for illegal
aliens.
Declaring his solidarity with the House Freedom Caucus, Oberweis said
that if elected he will oppose any attempts in Congress to provide amnesty
to illegal aliens by cleverly disguising wording in legislation to conceals its
true meaning and intent.
“There is support by some Republican Members of Congress for a bill
called ‘The Dignity Act’ authored by Florida Congresswoman Maria
Salazar from Miami. Her proposed bill, under the guise of ‘immigration
reform’ would make de facto amnesty concessions to Democrats,” said
Jim Oberweis. “I am adamantly opposed to amnesty —de facto or
otherwise— being part of any negotiation. I am elected to Congress, I
would stand firmly with the House Freedom Caucus in making sure no
such concession finds its way into law. Amnesty called by another name
is still amnesty.”
Said Oberweis: “This is an age-old Democrat negotiating tactic…moving
the goalposts for political gain, while proposing a ‘fix’ that is worse than
the problem they created in the first place. I have a better idea. How
about if we stick with common sense Republican policies, and start by
obeying the law from the beginning?”

“We should remember, Republicans already tried an amnesty deal during
the Reagan Administration, and we’ve seen roughly 30 to 40 million illegal
aliens arrive since then, thanks to Democrat efforts,” said Oberweis. “How
many times will Republicans play the sucker?”
“The law should be simple and clear: If you came here illegally, you have
already forfeited your right to live in a nation built on equal rights under the
law. Ours is a nation of laws, not of men,” said the SWFL Congressional
candidate. “When foreign nationals show disrespect for those laws by
entering our country illegally, why should the name ‘Dignity’ be associated
with any proposed Act granting them amnesty?” Furthermore, people in
our country illegally should not be allowed to receive taxpayer benefits like
SNAP, unemployment benefits, or even Medicare or Social Security.
“Why should American taxpayers foot the bill so that America’s wealthiest
can enjoy cheap labor? There is nothing fair or dignified about any of
that,” concluded Oberweis.
